Good, no GREAT news! Tyrel passed the swim qual today! Praise God!
I didn't get all the events written down as Taylor was listing them, but the qualification consisted of many chained events with no rest in between: swim 500 meters; retreive brick off bottom of pool & swim another 250 meters with it over your head out of the water; swim in full gear (heavy!); remove boots, hang around your neck, swim, get boots back on (all while treading water); rescue a "drowning" man, hold him over your head to get him to shore... back to back...really... I can't even imagine this!
The Timing Instructor was very angry that Tyrel's commanding officers didn't give him a minimum of 5 wks to train for this certification. (They told him about it yesterday with no time to even go swim a lap.) He told Tyrel that men train months and years for this school because it's the 2nd most difficult the Marine Corp offers! (That's saying something, since NOTHING they do is classified as easy!)
Now that he passed this testing today, he'll be sent to Camp LeJeune, N Carolina for a 6 weeks swim training. Although, this is a huge blessing, it comes with huge difficulties. They're asking us to pray for him physically, mentally and emotionally. That he can withstand such intense training- he's "spent" today and the mind is just as taxed as the body... this is NOT summer swim, go to the neighborhood pool kind-of-thing!
This will also separate them, again, for a 6-week timeframe they were not mentally prepared for. He'll return to Virginia from that school for 3 to 4 weeks, then go back to LeJeune for Machine- Gunner Training. (8 week school).
These schools are extremely intense with physical testing and constant studying & written testing. When you pass, it goes to your record, resulting in possible promotions, etc. When failed, it goes against your record with demotions, etc. NONE of the trainings are neutral on one's record, so stress levels are off the charts for these guys!
Thank you for continued prayers!
Blessings!
